What about first aid for the old and young?

I am sure no parents will want their kids to get hurt. However, it is inevitable for children to have bruises, cuts and some slightly more severe injuries than all these. Knowing this , it is especially essential that you are aware of how to attend to and treat these various injuries.

Even though many families have first aid kits stored in their homes, a lot of these people do not actually know how to use them properly and some even do not know the real purpose of some first aid items.

You might learn the fundamentals of first aid and have probably applied some to your kids but what if the situation is reversed; you are injured and your children are the only one present. With this in mind, children must have at least some knowledge in applying first aid, and also what they should do in case of an emergency if an adult is unable to handle the injury by themselves. It may appear too much for children to learn first aid; however, the basic details which they have to learn are actually not that hard to understand. In addition, you may also prepare and teach your children advanced first aid as they grow older.

Your children will first need to be able to easily identify and master the usage of some things present in a fundamental pre-packaged first aid kit. There are items such as scissors, bandages of various sizes, antibiotic ointments, wipes, burn treatments as well as other fundamental items. However, as mentioned not everything can be taught to children.

Older folks need a different type of first aid. Typically , due to the fact that they are more prone towards accidents , you need to shower them with consistent attention and care. They have weaker body and therefore, assistance should be provided most of the time. Because of this, hiring a caregiver is practical and advisable especially if no one in the family can give constant care and attention. Ensure that they take their medications as per the doctor’s instruction and replenish their medicine if it is depleting.

It is also important that any family who have an elderly individual living with them to acquire a portable defibrillator in case of heart attack event. Needless to say , you need to know when to use the defibrillator and master how to operate it the right way. When an elderly person is found in cardiac distress, without a heartbeat as well as non-responsive, a cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR is probably needed. It may not be appropriate for children to perform this measure unless they have attended an actual CPR class and understand the whole concept and/or given a certificate.

All in all, imparting some knowledge about basic first aid to your kids, getting a defibrillator at home and mastering CPR are some of the vital measures you need to take if you intend to lower the risk of injury in your home. No one knows when an accident will occur but you will be rewarded with knowing that your family is far better prepared to handle emergency situation.
